Morning Watch

in 1914 Charles Livingston Bull did this in charcoal.  This is my homage to his brilliant work.

Love

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.

Emmanuel A.M.E. Church

Emmanuel A.M.E. Church
Emmanuel A.M.E. Church
One cannot ignore the history of Charleston even while admiring its beauty.  Truly a wonderful city, and yet rooted in tragedy.   We went out to dinner with our beloved family members and took the opportunity to stop before this historic church to say a few silent prayers and reflect on where we have been...where we are now...and what the future might hold.

The church stands mighty and tall, a testament to the resilience of an amazing people who love her and their God.  It stands for hope and dignity.  It stands for forgiveness.  It stands for peace.

Risen

Indeed.

He is not here.

He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Blue  2017

In my continuing quest to convince Google that I am not scraping the content of other sites, I present to you (and their spiders) Blue, which I painted in 2017.   You can even see my signature on it.

It was a fun painting to do (I paint digitally on table monitors) because the transparency allowed me to seamlessly approximate the color of a collie with the background.

I work in the same way that most cartoonists do, I think.  I do a rough sketch, then ink it, add local color, and then (sometimes) shading.   The shading makes it look realistic...but that isn't always what I am looking for.   There are plenty of artists that do realism far better than I have ever cared to.  No, I am primarily a cartoonist.

I am currently working on developing a fifty-two strip weekly series of cartoons that will explain more deeply who I am and what I think...without being the least bit political.   I think laughing at ourselves is wonderful, creative medicine in a world that desperately needs more joy.

Until tomorrow...     ...cb

Pumpkin

PUMPKIN

So...the birthday girl is missing her pups, so I decided to sketch one.

Egg Hunt

Palm Sunday Thoughts on Easter

I am sometimes surprised with the fervor displayed by conservative Christian groups regarding the Easter Bunny, Egg Hunts, and the like.  There is a sign on the road near us that declares: "Christians Beware!  The Easter Bunny is not of Christ!"  I see very little wrong with the little rabbit.

Don't misunderstand.  I am a Christian.  Easter is our High Holiday.  Nothing compares to it...not Christmas or any other day.  And yet...children are unable to grasp the meaning of the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead.  Frankly... I don't even want to tell young children of the hideous death by the persecution that He endured.

The children must ask; "Why then, on this Easter Sunday, does our family get together and celebrate?  What makes it special for me?   I hate adults conversation when I must be quiet!"

So we need to look at this from a child's perspective, not from an adult.   God willing, there will be plenty of time for a child to mature in the faith.  Until then, let it be special.  Because Joy is greater than fear.

Tank and Lassie

Two years ago we visited friends Bob and Judy in Manvel Texas, an area to the south of Houston.  They were great hosts and created a playdate for us, our two dogs, their 13 dogs, and the dogs of many of the friends who are part of Houston Collie Rescue.   In the shade beside their home, Lassie and Tank relaxed and watched the other dogs playing in the yard.   A good time was had by all.  Thanks to all of our friends in Texas....we hope to see you again!

Bring them to Me...

Matthew 21:2-7

I will often times depict dogs in human roles.  I mean no disrespect to those humans who may have been in those roles, but I just happen to like dogs.

Good Evening...
